Crossing Lines
Crossing Lines is an interactive installation that uses anonymous phone conversations to bridge the divide between rural and urban communities in Minnesota. Two site-specific booths—one in a rural setting, the other in an urban environment—invite participants to engage in real-time dialogue.
On October 12, 2024, the installation facilitated 40 conversations, revealing unexpected commonalities, moments of joy, and the power of being heard by a stranger. By transforming the familiar act of picking up a phone into a site of connection and reflection, Crossing Lines explores communication as both infrastructure and ritual, revealing the shared humanity that exists across space.
This installation was created in collaboration with artist Maddy Bartsch, with grant support from Springboard for the Arts.
